Steenbok: Interesting Facts About The Graceful Antelope
Steenbok or Raphicerus campestris is a small and shy African Antelope.
The male steenbok is larger and bigger than the female and only the male steenboks have horns.
Steenbok is usually found in grasslands, shrublands, savannas and semi-desert regions of Southern Africa.
Despite being solitary animals, steenboks are monogamous and couples are paired for life.
Steenboks feed on fruits, leaves, flowers, shrubs and in absence of food they also consume the soil- it is known as “Geophagy”.
A steenbok usually lives 10-12 years in the wild.
Leopard, Cheetah, Wild dogs, Pythons, Caracals etc are the main predators of Steenbok.
