Recently a video surfaced on Reddit that a dog started to exercise differently to stay healthy as it doesn’t like walking. The dog’s activity was funny as well as creative and it entertained the users of Reddit.
A Reddit user named S. Smith under the username u/WarDog-808 shot the video on April 2, 2025 and uploaded it on Reddit on April 15. Till date the video crossed 30k upvotes and received more than 400 comments.
This video is about Hugo, a 3 year old English Bulldog, who is not lazy but doesn’t prefer walking a lot. Instead of walking a lot, Hugo loves to swim and chase a ball toy in the swimming pool.
The owner of the dog Mr. Smith revealed that the English Bulldog doesn’t mind walking for a while, for a short distance but he actually hate walking a lot. Hence, the owner and the dog found an alternative to playing in the pool with balls.
Smith also shared that Hugo is a fun loving dog. Before moving to Hawaii, Hugo used to run around on a skateboard. The owners encourage the dog to do whatever he likes to stay fit.
He doesn’t like to walk, so we found another way for him to get his exercise.

Not all bulldogs love to bathe. They take a bath once every 4-6 weeks. However, Hugo is different; he has no issue with bathing regularly.
The shape of Bulldog’s ears is different, and moisture can get easily trapped in their ears after bathing and causing ear infections.
Mr. Smith didn’t choose this exercise randomly. He consulted with the vet before, and it was suggested that if swimming makes his pup healthy and active, let it be.
In many studies, it was found that those dogs who exercise less frequently or less intensely tend to be overweight, and changing both dietary and exercise routines can prevent obesity in dogs.
However, most dogs don’t prefer swimming, but swimming can be an ideal exercise for your canine companion, especially those dogs who have stiff or painful joints. Additionally, swimming keeps dogs cool in the hot weather.

Another user suggested Mr. Smith to bring another easy to grab toy for Hugo instead of a round ball but Smith replied that the pup doesn’t like easy to grab toys and they have already experimented with this.
